Brad Fortney got by Wiarda for second, with pole dash winner Dolan and Chris Kratzer rounding out the top five. Heat race winners were Wiarda and Earl Kinderknecht.

After trying for three weeks the first appearance by Late Models at the Salina Speedway in five years was completed with a new winner emerging.

Caney, Kansas driver Gary Gorby, picked up the win in the MidwestDirt Late Model Series 30 lap Main Event. Gorby, tied for second in the standings before the evening, started the main event from the last starting position on the grid. Jimmy Segraves took the lead early in the event after picking up the win in the G&G Dozer Dash to lock in the pole position. Segraves then gave way to Delbert Smith before spinning out and being sent to the back. Smith seemed to have the upper hand until Gorby began picking off positions using the top side of the track. The “G Man” made quick work of Smith and sailed home to his first career MDLMS win. Smith finished second, followed by Earl Kinderknecht, Dave Conkwright, and Kelly Dunn.

Gorby was also the GRT Motorsports Hard Charger of the Race.

Earl Kinderknecht and Dave Conkwright picked up the heat race wins a week earlier in the event that was postponed by rain.

The largest field of Late Models in MidwestDirt Late Model Series history gathered on Saturday August 20 at the Caney Valley Speedway to honor a fallen racer at the 2nd Annual James House Memorial race.

And when the checkers flew on the field of 30 a familiar face stood in Victory Lane.

That face belonged to Republic, Missouri’s Brad Looney, a former winner on the MDLMS circuit, who drove his #14 to a clean sweep on the evening.

By virtue of passing points Looney started the event from the pole position and was never challenged as he lapped up to third place in the 30 lap main event. Gary Gorby would hold down second with a challenge as well but the real slicing and dicing came in the rest of the top 5 as the positions changed hands numerous times on the 1/4 mile fast and smooth Speedway.

At the end Looney crossed the stripe first followed by Gary Gorby, Shane Essary, Joe Gorby, and Jimmy Segraves.

Mark Daye and Wendell Sharpton took the wins earlier in the evening in the B Mains while Looney, Chuck Comer, Gary Gorby, and Joe Gorby won the heat races.

The next event for the MidwestDirt Late Model Series is this upcoming Friday night August 26 for the make-up race at the Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas.

With five heat races in the books persistent lightning caused officials to pull the cars off the track and ask spectators to take cover. After a delay the rain began getting heavier and forced postponement yet again for the MidwestDirt Late Model Series first visit to the Speedway.

Tonight’s scheduled events will now take place next Friday night August 26, including the Late Models who will run their G&G Dozer Cash Dash, a qualifying race for any new drivers, and the 30 lap Main Event from August 19.

The $1,000 to win Modified Chassis Challenge will also take place next Friday night. The Chassis Challenge is sponsored by Belleville Motorsports, 1st Class Chassis, Bills Built Race Cars, and JW Racing.

Also in action next week will be the Xtreme Motorsports B-Modifieds, Auto House Mod Lites, Blind Pig Sports Lounge Hobby Stocks, and Accurate Electric Front Wheel Compacts.

All fans in attendance on Friday August 19 are asked to keep their ticket stubs to be admitted to next Friday night’s races. Anyone with a pit pass should also keep those to be admitted to the pits. This will be the only way to get in from August 19th’s races. No refunds will be given and the tickets/pit passes from August 19 can only be used for August 26.

Anyone who purchased a 50/50 ticket for the night is also encouraged to hold onto it as the drawing will be held on Friday night August 26.

For more information on the Salina Speedway please visit www.racesalinaspeedway.com or call 785-914-5141.

It was a night of firsts at the Thunder Hill Speedway on Saturday August 6 as a first time winner visited Victory Lane in the first appearance there by the MidwestDirt Late Model Series.

Matt Johnson started on the pole position with current points leader Delbert Smith alongside for the 25 lap Main Event. Johnson, the winner of his heat race and the G&G Dozer Dash, quickly jumped to the topside of the track with Smith down to the bottom as the two raced side by side the first 9 laps until, as they started working lapped traffic, both got together in turn 4, with Smith coming to a stop in turn 2 causing a caution.

On the restart Johnson realized that his car was also mangled from the contact and stopped at the top of turn 3. Both cars retired from the race, giving Chris Spieker the race lead.

Doug Sieh would bring out another caution a lap later with a spin in turn 4 and Dave Conkwright did the same 3 laps later. Bo Egge mounted a charge on the restart but couldn’t keep up with Spieker, who drove his #56 to the winner’s circle. Egge finished second, Jimmy Segraves third, and Ed Moore fourth.

Johnson and Spieker won the heat races earlier in the evening.

The next event for the MDLMS Late Models will be on Friday August 19 at the Salina Speedway in Salina, Kansas.

After taking the feature win on Friday night at the Beaver County Raceway, Delbert Smith looked poised to sweep the weekend as the MidwestDirt Late Model Series took on the Dodge City Raceway Park.

He didn’t disappoint as he took his second checkered flag in as many nights and drove to Victory Lane before the crowd at DCRP. It wasn’t an easy task as he followed Nebraska driver Steve Kempt for a good portion of the race before getting around him after a restart late. Kempt held on for second with another Nebraska driver, Bo Egge, in third and Will Brack in fourth.

Brack also nailed down the GRT Race Cars Hard Charger Award after starting sixteenth and working his way through the pack to finish fourth.

Kempt and Egge won the heat races earlier in the night.

The event was co-sanctioned by the Championship Late Model Association DIRTcar Series and the National Championship Racing Association Great Plains DIRTcar Series.
